Clint Carney joined Southwest Strategies in 2004 after gaining experience in both government and law. Carney brings a combination of strategic communication skills to the company from his work with elected officials, municipal staff, local communities, private companies, non-governmental organizations and media professionals throughout San Diego County as well as in Southern California's Inland Empire of Riverside County and San Bernardino County. Carney's interest in community service and grassroots campaigns has helped develop relationships throughout the region with local residents, businesses, civic organizations and other stakeholders to form coalitions and create solutions on a variety of issues ranging from public infrastructure projects, private development, public policy and also community neighborhood issues. He also assists clients with navigating municipal contracting opportunities, and is active on several boards and committees of local professional organizations. As a former policy chief with the San Diego City Council, Carney managed public policy responsibilities, political issues and community services duties that required an understanding of a broad variety of dynamics that came into play while creating solutions to multiple issues. He was recognized for assisting fire survivors after San Diego's 2003 Cedar Fire and for resolving issues to help complete construction of State Route 56. In the community, Carney actively assists the San Diego Family Justice Center, the Outdoor Education Foundation, the La Maestra Family Health Clinic, Partnerships With Industry and other local community organizations. Carney also serves as the President of San Diego Teen Court, an innovative and successful non-profit juvenile diversion program where juries of high school students impose binding punishments for first-time misdemeanor offenders. Carney earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Virginia, and his law degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. He lives in La Jolla. In his spare time, you can find him on a golf course, on a run, on a hike or on a basketball court. |
