Joe Britton joined Southwest Strategies in 2010 as a Senior Account Executive after nearly a decade working as a public affairs journalist in San Diego. Most recently, Britton was the San Diego government and politics reporter for Los Angeles-based City News Service, the nation's largest regional wire service. Over a span of eight years, Britton reported on the offices of local, state and national elected officials, legislation that impacted the region, the political process and the military. He documented the city's pension crisis, a bribery scandal on the City Council, federal securities fraud investigations, the resignation of a mayor, the fall of a congressman and San Diego's ongoing budget woes. Britton also covered crime and public safety, most notably reporting on the wildfires that devastated the San Diego region in 2003 and 2007. Britton's stories have been picked up and published by print, broadcast and online news providers throughout Southern California and the United States. He began his career at The San Diego Daily Transcript, where he covered banking, real estate, construction and the ongoing redevelopment of downtown. At the newspaper, Britton also wrote a bi-weekly business column. He is also formerly an account executive at the San Diego public and government relations agency, Marston & Marston. In that role, Britton developed and directed communications, media and civic strategies for a range of national, state and local clients, in the government and private sectors. Britton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth in mass communications and journalism. He is a member of the San Diego Press Club. Outside of the office, Britton enjoys surfing, snowboarding, hiking and spending time with his wife and young son. |
