Manager of Public Affairs
Amy Spear has broad experience in public affairs, government relations and strategic communications. She serves as Manager of Public Affairs and supports the firm’s private and public clients through the entitlement and construction process. Spear manages a variety of public affairs programs for clients such as Regency Centers, Jackson Pendo, SANDAG, Kimley-Horn and the City of Carlsbad. Her responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic communications plans, building coalitions of support, planning public meetings, developing collateral and digital materials and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
Prior to joining the team at Southwest Strategies, Spear worked in Washington, D.C. for former U.S. Senator Richard Lugar for more than four years as a Projects Director and Legislative Assistant. She worked on a range of policies including local economic development, transportation, energy and infrastructure. She also served as a Governor’s Fellow for former Governor Mitch Daniels.
Spear currently serves as the President of the Women’s Museum of California, on the board for the Urban Land Institute Young Leaders Program, and is a member of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and BIA. She has a Real Estate Finance, Investments and Development Certificate from the University of San Diego and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, criminal justice and business from Indiana University.
