Southwest Strategies Wins Eight Hermes Creative Awards

Media kit and mail piece for What Price Main Street? win platinum honors

SAN DIEGO (June 27, 2016) – Southwest Strategies, a leading California public affairs agency, was awarded eight Hermes Creative Awards and five Honorable Mentions from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP). Southwest Strategies received awards in the categories of Advertising, Marketing Collateral/Branding, Integrated Marketing, Design, Social Media and Video. The company was recognized for its work on the What Price Main Street? campaign, Carlsbad Desalination Plant project, and the graphics and marketing materials for the 2015 PRSA San Diego and Imperial Counties Edward L. Bernays Mark of Excellence Awards. Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, and design of traditional materials and emerging technologies. Administered and judged by AMCP professionals, the competition has grown to one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Together with community members and local organizations, Southwest Strategies developed comprehensive public outreach programs for the What Price Main Street? and Protect San Diego’s Neighborhoods campaigns to educate the public about the negative impacts of a planned development, as well as to build a regional coalition of support. For their efforts, Southwest Strategies was recognized with two Platinum Hermes Awards for Media Kit and Direct Mail, along with Honorable Mentions in Logo, Website, Newspaper Advertisement and Postcard.

For the Carlsbad Desalination Project, Southwest Strategies, together with Poseidon Water, worked to bring online the “nation’s largest, most technologically advanced and energy-efficient seawater desalination plant.” Conceived in 1993 after a drought hit Southern California in the early 1990s, the $1 billion project was completed in December 2015 and now delivers 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day to the San Diego region. The celebration of the plant’s opening required a number of specialty design items from Southwest Strategies. For their work on the construction outreach and opening, Southwest Strategies received four Gold Hermes Awards in the categories of Infographic, Video Script, Event Invitation and Display Boards, as well as an Honorable Mention in the Logo category.

Showcasing its marketing expertise, Southwest Strategies worked pro bono for PRSA to design the awards theme and promotional materials for the local nonprofit’s signature awards event. Southwest Strategies created a unique and entertaining theme for this year’s Bernays Awards, “Carnivale Spectacular.” Marketing materials for the event, including a Call for Entries, social media graphics, program, menu and signage, garnered the agency another Gold Hermes Award.
